In addition to the achievements in recent years, the solid waste management in Dong Thap province has some difficulties and problems such as: The units have not fully collected all the waste generated in People, now mainly collect garbage from urban areas, the rate of garbage collection in rural areas is still low; Means of collection are still limited: the number of garbage trucks is small, the load is small, so the frequency and capacity of garbage collection and transportation are still poor; Solid waste is mainly treated in the form of landfill, but most of these landfills are located in residential areas, not designed to cover carefully so polluting the environment, especially pollution due to exhaust fumes when burning garbage; In the province, hazardous wastes in some hospitals have not been met the requirements. Most hospitals have medical waste incinerators, but have not met environmental standards. This is a factor causing serious pollution to neighboring areas. Good use of state incentives and supports in accordance with the law for investment projects on construction of solid waste treatment plants. . Currently, Dong Thap People's Committee has approved the investment policy for 04 projects to build a waste treatment plant in Dam Da landfill (Cao Lanh district), Sa Dec landfill (Sa Dec city) and Binh Thanh landfill (Hong Ngu town). In which, there is 01 investment project of industrial solid waste, hazardous waste and medical waste treatment plant.
